Indian
television and film actor, Ram Kapoor, is a household name in the Indian movie industry. The
actor who enjoys a huge fan following has always been the ‘talk of the town'
for many years.
He gained popularity playing the role of
Jai Walia in the television series Kasamh Se (The Promise) and the
character of Ram Kapoor in Bade Achhe
Lagte Hain.
Kapoor who has been acting since 1997,
discovered his inclination towards acting in ninth standard when he gave
auditions for a school play “Charlie's Aunt” for the Founder's Day
celebrations. The actor then moved to Delhi to pursue acting where he did
several plays. Later, he decided to go to abroad to study acting and got
himself enrolled in the Stanislavsky School of Method Acting in the US.
After completing his two year course from
the acting school, Ram Kapoor got several offers. However, he declined them all
because none was inspiring enough. He made his debut in the TV industry with
Nimbus Productions' Nyay in 1997, a
TV serial on DD helmed by Sudhir Mishra. After this there was no looking back
for him. It was in 2000 that Kapoor was offered a show ‘Ghar Ek Mandi' from
Balaji Telefilms which propelled him to stardom.
Over the years, he has
featured in different films, reality shows and hosted different shows and
events. Kapoor won the Indian Telly Awards for Best Actor
consecutively in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
After successful hits
like Kasamh Se and Bade Achhe Lagte Hai, Kapoor moved to Bollywood. His work
was much appreciated in films like Udaan, Mere Dad Ki Maruti, Humshakals, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, and
Student of the Year among more. Now paving his way back on the small screen,
Ram leads the force in Discovery Jeet’s humour based show, Comedy High School.
Kapoor is married to his Ghar Ek Mandir co-star and actress,
Gautami Kapoor. They met on the set of the TV show Ghar Ek Mandir and dated for a while before tying the knot on Valentine’s
Day in 2003. The couple is blessed with a daughter and son.
