He is known as the Shahenshah of
Bollywood. You cannot talk about Bollywood without mentioning the name, Amitabh
Bachchan.
The veteran Indian film actor clocked
75-years-old on October 11. Despite advancing in age, he is one man who knows
his craft. That’s why he is widely regarded as
one of the paramount and most influential actors in the history of Indian cinema as
well as world cinema.
Amitabh first gained
popularity in the early 1970s for movies like 'Zanjeer' and 'Deewaar', and was dubbed India's first
"angry young man" for his roles in Bollywood.
Referred to as the Shahenshah of Bollywood, Star of the
Millennium or Big B, he has since appeared in over
190 Indian films in a career spanning almost five decades.
His yesteryears
movies like 'Laawaris', 'Coolie', 'Naseeb', 'Silsila', 'Sharabi' and 'Jaadugar'
can never be forgotten which rose him to the current stardom and fan following.
In the year 2000, he became the first living Asian to be immortalised in wax at
Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. He was also elected member of the Indian Parliament
from the year 1984 to 1987.
Till date, he has
won numerous major awards in his career, including four National Film Awards
as Best
Actor and many awards at
international film festivals and award ceremonies. He has also won 15 Filmfare
Awards and is the most nominated performer in any major acting category at
Filmfare, with 41 nominations overall.
He was once host to Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), the Indian
adaptation of the British television game show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
He got married to actress, Jaya Bhaduri,
in June 1973 and they are blessed with two children, a daughter, Shweta
Bachchan and son, Abhishek Bachchan.
He was born in Allahabad, to a poet
father, Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan, a well-known Hindi poet and mother Teji
Bachchan.
His hobbies are Singing, reading and
blogging.
