Although she lost the $300,000 grand prize, Beverly Osu made history by becoming the first Big Brother Africa contestant that was never nominated for eviction since the inception of the African franchise of the television series in 2003.
She emerged a celebrity regardless of the loss. In this interview, the Delta State-born Osu tells Saturday Telegraph what many people don’t know about her.
Where have you been and what has been happening to you?
Well, I have been around. I have been working, I’m mostly into movies now; I am working toward opening my NGO called Dwelling Support Foundation. I have been very busy.
Would you accept an offer to act in a porn movie if the pay is good?
Of course not; I can’t accept such offer, I am not into such.
But you don’t see nudity as a big deal, so why not?
The honest truth is that, I can never do porn. No matter the amount of money involved, I will turn it down. I am a very blunt person, if a movie script requires me to strip naked, with good intention, I’d say, when we get to that bridge, I’d decide what to do. But I must know the producer, director and everyone, because I am a plan person
You have appeared in many music videos, do you have any plans to go into music?
When I get to that bridge I would cross it. I thought about it last week, I am music oriented. I really do love music, I am a lover of good music, I dance every minute of my life, so one day if the inspiration for good music comes, sure I will; everything we do, we do for fun.
Who would you like to produce your song when that time comes?
Don Jazzy, CeleBobo and Terry G; these are the people I’d love to work with.
How do you relax?
I am always a happy person, I am relaxed when I’m happy, even when I’m not working.
Describe your fashion sense
I am very simple, I don’t go overboard. I am always on jeans and shirts, I am not a designer freak. I buy what I can afford and what suits me. Maybe my wedding dress will have a designer label.
What are the three things you can’t do without?
My makeup purse, my wallet and my phone.
Did you ever date Ruggedman?
No! I never dated him. I am not dating Ruggedman, we are very cool buddies; we are just friends, and nothing more
Are you in a relationship?
Yes I am in one, a very beautiful one at that with progress.
If he asks you to marry him now, would you accept?
I don’t think I’m ready for that now, I am not ready for marriage. I should be thinking of marriage in another three years, that would be when I’m 26 years old; but for now, I am not ready.
Where do you see yourself five years from now?
Where ever God has planned for me, God’s plan is the best. I see a great future for myself, so when I get there God will keep directing me.
You have managed to etch your name in the industry, how has life it been after Big Brother?
Well, it’s been God, I think I am destined for greatness. I work very hard and it’s been God.
Who is your celebrity crush?
This sounds awkward, but I have to say it- I am crushing on Eva Alodia the rapper. I have had that crush on her like forever. She is my friend and I always tell her; but on a normal day, I don’t crush on any guy be he in music or movie.
Tell us about your background
I am the last born of Mr. and Mrs. Osu. I am the only girl, I grew up in a lively family, full of fun, music and laughter. I was born and bred in Lagos, everything about me is Lagos, my secondary school was in Enugu, I was in the convent for five years and then I left and went to Babcock University, and now I’m here.
What is your family’s response to your career?
I lost my dad; my mum is very beautiful, brilliant, g o a l – getter, she has been very supportive. Go and ask about her, she knows everything I do and she is ready to support me.
Does that mean she gives you her 100 per cent support?
My mother is the only precious gift I have in this world, I can never go out of my way to disgrace and disappoint her intentionally. She has lectured me properly. And even if the whole world rejects me, my mum can’t reject me. I love my mum so much. I am her only daughter and last born. I’ve always been there for her and she’ll always be there for me.
Who are your role models in the movie industry?
Julia Robert and Halle Berry, but here in Nigeria, I don’t have anybody as my role model, not even one, though I love Mercy Johnson and Ivie Okujaye.
Who are the people you would like to work with?
Mummy Joke Silver, and Kate Henshaw, and that is because they say we look alike and nothing more.
What can you not be caught doing?
I don’t know my dear, never say never, this is life and anything can happen
That means you can smoke in public or do nasty thing in public?
I just can’t say, anything can happen.
How is your modelling career?
It has been on a full-stop for a while now, but it’s coming back soon.
