‘Help, my husband has discovered I was impregnated by a fake prophet!’

Unable to become pregnant for her beloved husband, Elliot, Harmony made love to a false prophet who impregnated her. Elliot discovered later and refused to admit paternity of the child. Now he dismisses Harmony from his home amid anger and sobbing.

That Monday morning, immediately Elliot left for the office, the ‘servant of God’ showed up. We started with praise and worship; after which he prayed on the fruits and asked me to eat them. Once I was done with the fruits, he started caressing my body; he eventually ended up making love to me. This ritual continued for the whole five days after which I didn’t see him again.

The next month, I discovered that I was pregnant. When I told Elliot, he was so excited. He warned me to be careful. In fact, he got a house help so that I will not stress myself throughout the pregnancy. He also bought for me a new car and got me a driver. He became more loving than ever. At weekends, he would follow me to the hospital for my antenatal. I must confess, we were happier than ever. I finally gave birth to a bouncing baby girl and before I got home from the hospital, Elliot had decorated the baby’s room in colours of pink and white. It was so beautiful.

A few weeks later, I noticed that the baby did not really look like me or Elliot. A few people who came to visit me also observed this. I gave the excuse that she was still too young to have the semblance of me or her father, but deep down in my heart, I knew I was just saying it to soothe my guilt.

However, I got the shocker of my life two months later. I was at home with my mother-in-law that fateful afternoon when we heard a knock on the door. I rushed to open it. Behold I saw a young man dressed in jeans and T-shirt. “Good afternoon ma, this letter is for you,” he said. “Thank you but who is it from?” I asked. “I was only asked to deliver it to you madam. Have a good afternoon,” he emphasised. He handed over the letter and left immediately. “Who could have sent this letter?” I murmured. I went straight to the bedroom, tore the envelope it open and I could not believe what was written in the letter. It read:

Dear Madam,

How is my baby doing? Do you know you are the biggest fool I have ever met? I’m not a real prophet as you think. I am just an undergraduate who lives four houses away looking for fun. I heard about your plight of looking for a child so I decided to pretend to be a prophet and it worked perfectly.

Please take good care of our baby. I got a scholarship to study abroad and I will be leaving tonight. It’s a pity I don’t even know your name but I enjoyed all our moments together while it lasted. Just to let you know that I don’t need the baby but I hope you will tell your husband the truth some day so that he will know how stupid his wife is. I am the false prophet who actually delivered the letter. Have a nice life.

I hid the letter and tried to pretend that nothing was wrong. Somehow, Elliot saw the letter and asked me about the true paternity of the baby. I tried all I could to make him believe that he was the father of our baby but it was obvious that he was not convinced. He insisted and carried out a DNA test on the baby. The result clearly showed that he was not the father of my baby. He quietly asked me to leave his house and warned that the child must not bear his surname. I pleaded with him that I did it for us but all pleas fell on deaf ears. For the first time, I saw my husband shed tears like a woman as he watched me leave the house.

I went back to my father’s house. The child bears my father’s name because I don’t even know the name of the fake prophet. It’s been almost two years since I left Elliot’s house and I am still asking him and his family for forgiveness. Elliot, I loved you so much that I wanted to give you a child by all means; I wanted you to be happy. I know what I did was totally wrong but I did it out of desperation to give you a child. Elliot, please forgive me. I don’t know what else to do.
