Nigeria loses 20,000 doctors to foreign countries - Dr Okojie

Recent information from the Federal Govenment has revealed that about 20,000 doctors have migrated from Nigeria over time to foreign countries to seek greener pastures and better working conditions with about 4,000 of that figure heading to the United States of America.

This revelation was made on Tuesday by the National Chairman, Association of Public Health Practitioners of Nigeria, Dr Obehi Okojie, during the induction ceremony for 103 graduates of foreign medical institutions and Igbinedion University, Okada, at the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
According to her, “it is a shame and retaining these expensively- trained professionals has been identified as an issue government has to address seriously and urgently to reverse this ugly trend.”
If this ugly development is not checked as soon as possible, she said, the country will soon be in danger.
