I love to wear fitted clothes - Adetutu

Adetutu Adurogbangba was one of the contestants in the 2010 Nigeria’s Next Super Model where she won the plus size model. She emphasised that she has had her own fair share of sexual harassment on the job and has also had her embarrassing moments on the runway. She told www.angeladaviesblog.blogspot.com that her style is simple but however loves to flaunt her lower body.

Where are you from?
I am from Shaki in Oyo State
How was growing up for you?
It was very interesting. I grew up like a normal child in a Christian home.
When did you start modelling?
About two years ago.
What motivated you into modelling?
Well, I did not really believe in myself but people kept telling me that I have the attitude and height. It was Denrele that actually fished me out. He came to my school in 2009 (University of Ibadan), saw and liked me. He took me to Lagos and said he was going to introduce me to a lot of people.
Are you still in school?
Yes, I am in my 400 level now studying Economics.
How do you combine schooling and modelling?
I know it could be a little bit difficult but I just try to use my time well. I am actually studying Economics, so it helps me in managing my time. Most times I have to choose between modelling and my studies, but of course my education comes first.
We hear some models sleep with their managers or clients in order to get a job. Can you ascertain this?
For me I can say I don’t sleep with clients or anybody to get jobs because I know I have what it takes to be a model. So why do I have to sleep with someone?
But have you ever been sexually harassed?
Yes, a couple of times.
How do you feel or react at such moments?
At times it could be annoying. I still text messages on my phone for sealed jobs and all of a sudden I would get a text message that someone ask that I play with him before doing the job. But it depends on what you want. I tell people I’m not desperate to be a model, it is what I love to do but it does not have to control my life. Because I know what I want, I don’t think twice about such things.
What has been your most embarrassing moment on the runway?
(Laughs) that would be in the Nigeria Next Super Model 2010 when I was walking on the runway and my hee got broken. Since it was a competition, I couldn’t wait, I just had to tip toe. But I think I liked it.
How did you feel at that moment?
One of the models told us when we were in camp that when anything happens to you on the runway, do not allow it to affect you. So I remembered that and I continued walking and people just started clapping for me. I just had to walk straight although I was a bit embarrassed but I felt good.
You were one of the contestants in the 2010 edition of the Nigeria Next Super Model. How was it in camp?
Ha, it was interesting. I really loved it and I enjoyed myself.
What one thing did you take away from camp?
Before last year, I wasn’t used to being around people. I like staying alone. At first, I found it difficult most times I cry because people pick on you and say things that you are not used to. So, from the camp, I learnt to live with people and I can manage people around me. I did not win the competition but I won the plus size model out of 18 girls in camp.
Is it only runway model you do?
No, I also do editorial and commercials.
Can you model lingerie?
No, I can’t. Well, it is not all about money but what is inside of you.
What is style to you?
Style to me is anything that makes you comfortable. It doesn’t really have to be what other people wear. It is what defines you and gives you that wow factor.
What is your kind of style?
My own kind of style is simple. I am just me. I like being plain; most times I don’t wear make-up.
How do you love to carry your hair?
Well, for about a year and half I was on low cut. I just started making my hair. So, whether I wear low cut or fix weave on, it suits me.
Your favourite designer
Hmmm… I like Mai Tafo. I like his designs and internationally, I like Danny Andra. I admire his designs.

In the fashion world, who is your role model?
I like Omowumi Akinnifesi because most times she is simple. She just wears something that suits her.
If you have to show off any part of your body, where would that be?
I think my lower body because I kind of have a lovely shape.
So, what kind of clothes do you love to wear to flaunt your lower body?
I love to wear fitted clothes all the time
How would you describe yourself?
Tutu is Tutu, I am just me. But, I would describe myself as someone that is a little bit quiet, kind of shy and very reserved.
What fashion blunder have you committed?
Well, not any that I know of. At least nobody has pointed that out to me.
How do you relax?
People say I am a very boring person. Most times, I just listen to music or probably just read a novel. I am an indoor person.
What is your best colour?
My best colour contradicts me. It is red. Red is flashy and I am a little bit shy.
What are your hobbies?
Dancing, talking and counselling people. It is a gift from God
