The Don Pedro Aganbi-led faction of
the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, Lagos State chapter, has announced activities
for the 2013 Lagos State Actors Week billed to hold between October 2 and 6 in
Lagos.
Addressing newsmen in Lagos, Aganbi
said the 2013 Lagos Actors Week would focus on the theme, ‘The Nigerian Movie
Industry as a Catalyst for Economic Growth and National Transformation: Issues
and Perspectives’.
According to Aganbi, “The Nigerian
Film Industry continues to be one of the most fascinating film milieus in
Africa. Its growth is still spectacular because of the role it has continued to
play in the development of our society. We believe that the film industry shall
and will continue to play a vital role in popularising corporate brand,
government policies and ideologies amongst the people as well as consolidate
and build new relationships between the government and private sector, culture
and economic development.”
In addition, he said the Actors
Week would feature for the first time Nollywood mini-marathon and celebrity
walk designed to promote health consciousness among actors.
“The mini-marathon would flag off
from Maryland and will wind its way through Ikorodu Road to the Teslim Balogun
Stadium. There shall also be free medical screening, workshop and health
exhibition,” Aganbi revealed.
Other activities lined up for the
four-day extravaganza include Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) day,
Cultural/Fashion show and the AGN Merit Awards and Gala Nite.
He remarked that the event is a
revolutionary platform for the government, private sector, business community
and foreign missions to chart a course for the future of the Nigerian actor.
He added that it would provide
excellent networking opportunities among movie actors, government, private
sector and the international community.
It is learnt that top
Nollywood celebrities had already indicated interest to make the week a
memorable one.
