Corps members will be posted to troubled states- Minister

Youth Corps members will be posted to troubled states for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) announced the Minister of Youth Development, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir at a press conference in Abuja yesterday.

This implies that this announcement supersedes an earlier statement by the Director-General of the NYSC, Brig. General Nnamdi Okore-Affia who allowed corps members to be redeployed from troubled states.
According to the minister, his position is that of the law. “The fundamental thing is that the NYSC is a constitutional issue; the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which is supreme. So if you are going to make any amendment to the NYSC or alter anything, you have to alter the constitution that is the position.”
In that regard, posting of corps members to states, apart from their own, except in some special circumstances, is governed by the law and must be adhered to.” the minister said. He condemned the protest by some corps members in Abuja.
But really should corps members be posted to the North to die just because they want to serve their fatherland? Some notable Nigerians have said that the NYSC programme is no longer necessary and as such should be scrapped. What do you think?
