Nigeria’s leading telecommunications company, MTN Nigeria, in partnership with Style House Files and the British Council Nigeria, has announced the commencement of its maiden edition of the MTN Lagos Fashion and Design Week which comes up in October 2011.
According to Omoyemi Akerele, Creative Director, Style House File the show would promote and celebrate designers who are making valuable contributions to the style industry and also afford budding designers the opportunity to showcase their collections. A minimum of 20 designers are expected to take part in the show while another 12 young upcoming designers selected from auditions in Port Harcourt, Abuja and Lagos will also showcase their collections during the week long event. There will be exhibition during the day while models will strut the run way in the evening.
She added that the winner of the Young Designer of the Year Award will be presented a brand new Hyundai car worth N4.5million, the MTN Young Creative Entrepreneur of the Year will win N1million cash prize, while the British Council will sponsor the winner to the London Fashion and Design Week. The, model of the Year will also get N1million.
She thanked MTN Nigeria, the major sponsor for deciding to partner with them on the huge project stating that their support goes beyond financial as they have been their all the way, gladly lending their expertise and guidance whenever it is required.
According to Cherry Eromosele, Senior Manager, Segment marketing MTN, the show is aimed at grooming young designers and entrepreneurs by injecting fresh ideas into the local fashion and style industry and facilitating their steady movement up the ranks to revolutionize the industry.
The event was attended by industry players, renowned designers and models like Folake Akindele Coker of Tiffany Amber, Isio Elohor of Beth Models and other industry practitioners.
